Above: Cuban Flag sent by political prisoners from the “Pedro Luis Boitel” Cuban Political Presidium at Combinado del Este in Havana, Cuba.  The Flag was presented to the 59th session of the United Nations Human Rights Commission.  It is signed with the blood of political prisoners and constitutes a symbol of courage of all those men and women arbitrarily incarcerated in Castro’s prisons for defending the rights and fundamental freedoms of the Cuban people.

In March 2003, the Castro dictatorship arrested dozens of independent journalists, human rights activists, and leaders of the emerging civil society.  The regime sentenced 78 journalists and dissidents for calling for freedom of expression, human rights, and a peaceful transition to freedom and democracy.

“Voices for Freedom” was organized by Miami artists to show solidarity with the men and women jailed for their beliefs and to raise funds to support their families.  Members of the Cuban-American artistic community invites you to a reception, silent auction, and concert to take place on Friday, June 20, from 6 to 10 PM at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.
