Wildflower

This ceramic piece (one of a series made from an original sculpture by Xavier Cortada) depicts a native Florida wildflower. They’ve been hand-painted in green, blue, yellow and water.

The artist created the work to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Juan Ponce de Leon landing in our peninsula and naming it “La Florida” –from “flor,” the Spanish word for flower. To learn more about Cortada’s work with wildflowers, please visit www.flor500.com
