13:03:06    Mario    Hey, Xavier loks good

13:03:09    JOIN    robert has joined. (209.214.2.146)

13:03:45    robert    too much blue. but nice angel. turn around and wave to the ruano family

13:04:45    Mario    Robert, I don't think he sees what we are typing

13:05:15    robert    my dad says the angel's face is fuzzy. my brother says you need more red in the picture

13:05:59    robert    he does. his cousin tells is at the pc and tells him what people write

13:07:45    willy    NICE ARTWORK. HOWEVER, IN PREVIOES SESSIONS, I FORGOT ABOUT A KEY CONCEPT. LOVE IS LIFE, ALTHOUGH, IT MAY BE AS HARD TO CAPTURE A VISUAL OF LIFE AS IT IS LOVE.

13:07:53    Mario    Xavier, you are not supposed to take breaks if we are watching you.

13:07:58    webstudio    We're here.

13:08:12    webstudio    Welcome to the WebStudio.

13:08:30    robert    good point mario. he probably went to the bathroom

13:09:32    Mario    Perhaps, but for your latter point, I don't think that character is an angel

13:09:33    willy    So, webstudio boys, what are we talking about today, other than critiquing the colorscheme of your canvas?

13:10:02    robert    wave to the camera cubaba.

13:10:48    webstudio    Robert: Xavier agrees with your brother (about the red). "The first thing I thought of was red is a color of passion. but the people who came
here the first two days were talking about another kind of love, that of family. So that influenced the painting -- made it 'cool' instead of 'hot'.:

13:11:06    webstudio    "I'm happily adding red by his request."

13:11:54    webstudio    Willy: Xavier would like you to elaborate on your life comment.

13:12:07    willy    I get the impression that I may know you, Robert and Mario. Would you be Ruano and Yanez, respectively?

13:12:50    Mario    That's right, how do you know?

13:13:05    webstudio    "Today we are completing this canvas, sensitive to the fact that most of the surface area is filled. We'll start on a new piece tomorrow and I promise to paint it red."

13:14:02    webstudio    "This painting is focusing on love of family because that's how the first participants drove the composition."

13:14:28    willy    Because I know all. I am Willy Chirino, aka Uncle Willy.

13:14:55    webstudio    "The big feather comes from a quote by Emily Dickinson: 'Love is a thing with feathers.' That led to a whole aviary discussion."

13:15:53    webstudio    "The central piece in the painting is from something that Mel said: her son is the best thing her husband and her had created."

13:16:32    willy    To respond to X's request, zLove is Life. It is yhe cenerpiece of all existence, once you discover it. It is a compass to guide your every move.

13:16:56    webstudio    "Yesturday we discussed love been a kernel of corn. Love is food, a seed, immediate use as well as potential."

13:18:09    webstudio    "Should I represent that with a compass, Willy? How literal do you want me to be? Do you want a compass with a heart in the middle? Or can we find another way of depicting life's navigation?"

13:19:18    Mario    Is that you Willard?

13:19:48    willy    Well, if you want to develop a nautical theme, you could use a sextant, a Columbus-type mariner, on the sea at night. I think I like your idea better.

13:20:21    willy    Yes, Mario, you are correct. I am longwinded, as usual.

13:21:22    Mario    I am talking to Ruano on his Cel, he had to bail, but sends his regards

13:21:28    webstudio    "That shape thing at the bottom right kind of looks like part of a compass, no?

13:21:50    webstudio    "Perhaps I'll put a South and an East symbol there."

13:23:06    Mario    X, is there a breast in the painting, because breast is nutrition to familial love.

13:23:20    willy    Go for it. I think it ties in nicely, and it would help 'flesh out' that portion of the canvas layout.

13:24:41    webstudio    Xavier responds, "Yes Mario, that's exactly why that's there. The breast does not approximate erotic by anyone's standard."

13:24:42    willy    Mario. at one point a breast was mentioned as a symbol of life. I believe the funky looking circular shape toward the top left is a breast. Am I right,
X?

13:25:46    willy    Actually, X, you could put a nipple ring in the breast (ha ha).

13:26:14    webstudio    "That's very insightful, Willy. The reason why I intuitively doodled in the lower-right hand corner is to compensate and balance the painting."

13:26:19    Mario    I second that, makes it more modern.

13:28:29    Mario    I got to go. I'll rejoin you guys later. I am glad we can share in your work. Take care Willy - hope all is well. By the way X, Sara and I are parents in case you had not heard.

13:29:40    webstudio    "Willy, the orangish circle at the top-rightish might look like a nipple but it's actually a sun."

13:29:41    willy    OK, let's talk about something philosophical here. Why did you select the color scheme you chose, X? I would have intuitively gone with more reds and oranges, since love to me is a 'warm' topic. Unless you are talking about love in the religious sense, like God's love for his children.

13:30:04    LEAVE    Mario has left.

13:30:37    webstudio    "Congradulations, Mario. Was it a boy or a girl?"

13:30:51    willy    In that case, since it is 'divine love', it should be cool, blue, insightful, considering.

13:31:24    willy    Robert, are you still there? Mario mentioned that you had to move on.

13:32:58    webstudio    Willy: "The reason I picked the cooler colors is because the conversations we've engaged in had a more familial tone, and in a way I'm sure floated into the subconscious, I linked familial love to something that's cool, refreshing, and peaceful."

13:33:21    webstudio    "Whereas passionate love is 'hotter'."

13:35:01    willy    Makes perfect sense to me. Will you be doing a companion piece on more passionate/erotic/sexual love?

13:36:42    webstudio    "Tune in tomorrow at 1 p.m. Eastern, Willie, for the companion, more 'red' companion painting."

13:38:12    willy    Is this a new development in the evolution of the WebStudio, oh master of Internet Art?

13:38:32    JOIN    schmoop1 has joined. (129.171.59.197)

13:39:21    schmoop1    Hello!

13:39:42    webstudio    "Yes, Willie. If the Internet is about anything, it's about adabtability."

13:39:50    willy    X, we will try to be in tomorrow's session. I am certain that conversation will be lively. I'll send out a message to selected people about tomorrow's event. Love to all, X and Schmoop.

13:39:52    webstudio    "Welcome Schmoop!"

13:40:05    IDLE    robert was idle over 30 minutes and has been removed.

13:40:10    LEAVE    willy has left.

13:41:07    webstudio    "I am probably going to create subtopics on a monthly basis, and even timely paintings that do not hacve anything to do with the scheduled topics, e.g., we'll probably do an Earth Day mural on the 22nd, inviting school kids to participate."

13:41:10    schmoop1    What's going on tomorrow?

13:42:27    webstudio    The Red Love Painting, at 1 p.m.

13:43:32    schmoop1    Is that a political statement, the color red?

13:50:43    webstudio    "No, it's a love thing."

13:52:02    JOIN    Mario has joined. (170.134.209.243)

13:52:35    webstudio    "Mario: is it a boy or a girl?"

13:53:02    Mario    It's a girl, Uma

13:53:39    Mario    You both must come visit.

13:54:02    webstudio    "Congradulations, Mario. This painting was inspired by Willard's boy, Jacob. (Willard being Willy, who was online.)"

13:55:45    Mario    Cool, I had no idea, how wonderful having a child could be.

14:00:15    Mario    This piece is very timely. I have recently fallen in love myself so I can relate. But I feel alot more yellows and oranges would be appropriate to convey warmth.

14:01:46    webstudio    "Are those the colors you would convey for the love of your child, as opposed to your love of Sara?"

14:02:03    JOIN    Barbara-Andress has joined. (170.134.208.97)

14:02:09    Mario    Yes, absolutely

14:02:51    webstudio    Welcome to the WebStudio, Barbara.

14:03:44    webstudio    "Mario: orange here we come. I'm very happy that paternal, family love can glow in orange."

14:04:38    Mario    I am glad I could be of assistance.

14:05:21    webstudio    "Are you seeing me paint the sunshine gold?"

14:05:53    Mario    Yes, I am touched

14:06:44    Mario    Actually, I think it works quite well

14:08:22    LEAVE    Barbara-Andress has left.

14:09:01    Mario    Boy, she must have been the quite type

14:10:09    webstudio    "Is there anything else you would add or change about our painting?"

14:10:27    webstudio    "We'll be finishing it up today."

14:12:38    Mario    I've enjoyed this. I will try to make it a habit. Just one thing before I go: No body is touching. I don't know if it's to late to appeal to the sense of
touch.

14:13:28    schmoop1    I'm back.

14:13:35    webstudio    "Who should be touching who? Phenomenal point, Mario."

14:14:06    webstudio    "Welcome back, schmoop."

14:14:51    Mario    I'm not quite sure maybe you could do it symbolically, or with the eyes or something

14:15:50    webstudio    "The couple on the left are actually reaching out and touching an object at the center of the painting, which is a stylized kernel of corn (see logs of previous sessions for the corn deal)."

14:16:18    webstudio    "That text inside the kernel talks about spiritual love, and the love that a parent has for his child."

14:16:37    Mario    I know tie the two people together with a delicate string or something.

14:17:20    webstudio    "And they are reaching towards, and even uplifting, that concept. But you do have a point in that perhaps they should be touching the child, and not the theoretical construct."

14:18:11    Mario    Perhaps they are caught between the concept, the ideal and reality, the flesh

14:18:15    webstudio    "The two people (parents) are actually intwerwoven into a mass of one. You cannot tell where one begins and one ends. I'll show you with a close-up that should appear soon."

14:19:24    Mario    OOOOHHH, I see, It was hard to make out at a distance. Thanks for the close up.

14:19:59    webstudio    "They are united in one; their love is united in one. And that love has created the child in the center."

14:20:28    webstudio    "But still, do we need a hand touching the child, or reaching toward the child?"

14:21:47    Mario    I am beginning to see what you mean...

14:23:06    webstudio    "What should the child be holding in his hand?"

14:23:14    webstudio    "Any ideas?"

14:23:48    Mario    A timepiece to symbolize how fast they grow up???

14:24:20    webstudio    "What exactly is a 'timepiece'?"

14:24:40    Mario    A clock or something

14:24:53    Mario    an hourglass perhaps

14:26:52    webstudio    "Elaborate upon the significance of the hourglass in the child's hand, please."

14:27:43    JOIN    Maria-M--Yip has joined. (170.253.220.1)

14:28:29    webstudio    Hi Maria, thanks for joining the WebStudio.

14:29:36    Mario    Life is short, we don't have much time to enjoy the ones we love. Its a delictae balance

14:29:43    LEAVE    Maria-M--Yip has left.

14:30:40    webstudio    "Beautiful. I'll have him carry the hourglass."

14:30:53    Mario    I also think its a reminder to the parents to pay attention to their child as he is growing up

14:32:36    webstudio    "Phenomenal idea; I love it. The sad truth is that most of us in society do not prioritize our time correctly, we're too concerned about providing
security for the ones we love, that we forget to provide love for the ones we love."

14:34:18    Mario    Exactly. That is my current dilemna which I am trying to find resolution to.

14:34:50    webstudio    "What steps are you taking?"

14:36:40    Mario    Well, I am trying to increase business to the mailorder company. Also we are trying to see if at the very least Sara doesn't have to go back to work.

14:37:43    webstudio    "Let me ask you another way: if we were to err in the other direction, and spend a lot of our time just enjoying each other's company, but weren't building a solid future (financial and otherwise), would at some future point we be judged for being negligent and even unloving? I'm remind of Harry Chapin's Cat's Cradle song."

14:39:16    webstudio    "It is about striking a balance."

14:39:29    Mario    I am not interested in a solid future just a rrof over our heads. We could live under a bridge and spend a lot of time together. But that would suck.

14:39:47    webstudio    "I mean, after all, going to work is no bed of roses. It's actually sacrificing yourself for the ones you love."

14:40:20    webstudio    "One of our life struggles is to find that balance. And that even applies to loving oneself."

14:40:52    webstudio    "How much time do we devote to meaningless pursuits that we wind up regretting, because we were required to?"

14:41:54    Mario    I guess your right, but still there has to be way to merge it all together. So that you can provide and still be there a big percentage of the time.

14:42:36    webstudio    "I guess it's one of those life lessons we're all going to learn the hard way."

14:43:52    Mario    Which reminds me I better get back to chaingang. Thanks for allowing me to have some input it was very enjoyable.

14:44:51    LEAVE    Mario has left.

14:44:58    webstudio    "Thanks Mario. We're back from 1 to 3 p.m. tomorrow, if you'd care to join us. Say hi to Sara and Uma."

14:45:49    LEAVE    webstudio has left.

love2-98.jpg (5440 bytes) WebStudio Log:  The Love Painting

During the month of April, WebStudio participants focus on the topic of love and create "The Love Painting" through a collaborative process that builds upon the work from the preceeding WebStudio sessions.

Participants interested in viewing what others have contributed can see the chatroom and image logs documenting the process.  Naturally, more participant input is available at the Participant's Gallery and in the Discussion Forum on Love.

Logs are organized by session dates, click here to return to the main directory of the log of previous sessions.
