ONANI

"ONANI: the African presence in contemporary Latin American and Caribbean visual arts," at El Taller Puertorriqueño. The group show opens on Jan 22nd, 1999; the artists' reception is on Feb. 12th from 6 to 8 p.m.

On January 22nd, 1999, Cortada joins 16 artists in opening the exhibition "ONANI: the African Presence in Contemporary Latin American and Caribbean Visual Arts" in Philadelphia's El Taller Puertorriqueno.

Through this body of work we will explore the highlights of our common African heritage as well as the African Diaspora in the Americas. Cortada's contribution to the exhibit will be his 1996 painting, Vecinas.

Concurrent with the ONANI exhibition will be a symposium as part of EL Taller's 3rd Annual Arturo Schomburg Series, bringing together artists, scholars, and critics.

The exhibit runs from January 22nd through March 5th, 1998. The artists' reception is on February 12th at 6 p.m., the symposium begins the next morning. For more information on ONANI call Doris Nogueira Rogers, El Taller's Visual Arts Director, at 215-426-3311.
