World Wide Wave |

The First Night World Wide Wave All First Night International sites are asked to help send a "World Wide Wave" as we welcome the New Year. First Night sites will encourage their communities to use the Internet to make their wishes for the New Year part of an artistic and collaborative world process. This will happen continuously for 24 hours from December 31st to January 1st, capturing the celebratory moment as the clock strikes midnight in each of the Earth's 24 time zones. The website will feature a discussion forum-like area for participants to post their messages. These resolutions will be simultaneously downloaded and printed at the First Night Miami Beach site, where artist Xavier Cortada will collage them into a large collaborative mural. Cortada pioneered the use of Internet technology in collaborative art-making through his WebStudio project, and will use a similar approach in this activity. During the 24-hour period, the website will show webcam images of the mural as it is being created and will post resolutions as they are received. For more information please email the artist.
